Las Cruces Dumpster Rental β
Every Question Answered
Real answers from a local Las Cruces company. No runaround, no fine print surprises β just straight talk about how dumpster rental works in the Mesilla Valley.
Sizing & Pricing
What size fits your job β and what it’ll actually cost you in Las Cruces.
What size dumpster do I need for a kitchen remodel in Las Cruces? +
For a typical Las Cruces kitchen remodel, a 20-yard dumpster is the sweet spot for most homeowners β it handles old cabinets, countertops, flooring, drywall scraps, tile, and general construction debris without you having to cram things in or overfill the box. If you’re also taking out a wall or doing a full gut to the studs, that same 20-yard will still hold up well. Where people get into trouble is renting a 10-yard thinking it’ll be enough β then they’re calling us halfway through the job for a swap, which costs more in the long run than just getting the right size upfront.
If your kitchen remodel is combined with a bathroom reno or you’re doing flooring in adjacent rooms at the same time, jump up to a 30-yard. We can walk you through it on the phone β just describe what you’re tearing out and we’ll give you an honest recommendation. We’d rather lose a little on the upsell than have you stuck with a full box and nowhere to put your debris.
How much does dumpster rental cost in Las Cruces, NM? +
Our pricing in Las Cruces generally runs $150 to $800 depending on the dumpster size, rental period, and what you’re throwing away. Here’s a rough breakdown of what to expect:
- 10-yard dumpster: ~$150β$450 β ideal for small cleanouts, garage junk, single-room demo
- 15-yard dumpster: ~$175β$500 β medium cleanouts, roof shingles (partial), bathroom remodel
- 20-yard dumpster: ~$215β$550 β kitchen/bath combos, moving cleanouts, deck removal
- 30-yard dumpster: ~$350β$700 β large renovations, full-house cleanouts, roofing jobs
- 40-yard dumpster: ~$500β$800 β construction sites, major commercial cleanouts, large estates
These prices include standard delivery, the rental period (usually 7 days), pickup, and disposal up to the weight limit. We give you the all-in price when you book β no surprise fees on the back end. The biggest variable is weight overage, which we explain upfront so you can plan accordingly.
What’s included in the dumpster rental price? +
When you rent from us, your quoted price covers delivery to your location, the full rental period (7, 10, or 14 days depending on what you book), pickup when you’re done, and disposal of everything in the bin up to the included weight limit. We’re not a hidden-fee operation β we genuinely dislike the business model of quoting low and slapping charges on after the fact.
What’s NOT included in the base price: weight overages beyond your included tonnage, extended rental days if you keep the bin longer than agreed, and fuel surcharges for remote deliveries outside our standard service radius. We tell you all of this when you book so you can plan your budget properly. If you call and describe your job, we’ll help you pick the right size and tonnage allowance so you don’t get hit with extras.
What happens if I go over the weight limit? +
Every dumpster rental comes with an included tonnage allowance β typically 1 to 5 tons depending on the size you rent. If the loaded bin weighs more than that when we haul it, you’ll be billed an overage charge per ton over the limit. In Las Cruces, that rate typically runs $65β$85 per additional ton, and we always tell you this rate before you book so it’s not a surprise.
The weight limit matters most when you’re dumping heavy materials β concrete, caliche, adobe block, dirt, tile, gravel, roofing shingles. A 10-yard bin can physically hold two tons of caliche and still look half-empty by volume, but you’ll pay for every pound over your limit when it hits the scale at the transfer station. If you’re doing a heavy-debris project, talk to us β we may recommend a smaller bin with a higher weight allowance, or price a separate heavy-debris haul.
Can I get a discount for booking multiple dumpsters or being a repeat customer? +
Yes β we actively reward contractors, property managers, and repeat homeowners. If you’re a contractor running multiple jobs in Las Cruces, ask us about setting up a contractor account. We offer volume pricing for customers who book regularly, and we can set up a billing arrangement that makes project management easier β one invoice per month rather than a charge per delivery.
For homeowners doing a multi-phase renovation, if you know you’ll need two or more dumpsters over the course of the project, mention it when you call. We can often lock in a better per-bin rate when we know you’re a multi-haul customer. We’re a local business and we value ongoing relationships β a loyal customer is worth more to us than squeezing every dollar out of one transaction.
Delivery & Placement
How and where the dumpster gets dropped β and what you need to know before we pull up.
How fast can you deliver a dumpster in Las Cruces? +
In most cases, if you call or book online by 9:00 AM, we can deliver the same day within the Las Cruces city limits and close-in areas like Mesilla, Tortugas, and the NMSU corridor. Next-day delivery is almost always available regardless of when you book. We run routes Monday through Saturday and can accommodate most schedules.
That said, same-day is not guaranteed during peak season (spring cleaning runs MarchβMay, and the big NMSU move-out season in May and August gets slammed). If you’ve got a hard start date on a demo project, book a day or two ahead to be safe. We’ll always tell you honestly if same-day isn’t possible rather than giving you a window and not showing up.
Where should I put the dumpster on my property? +
The most common and easiest placement is your driveway β it gives the truck clear access, protects your lawn, and keeps the bin off the street. Most driveways in Las Cruces, whether they’re concrete, asphalt, or pavers, can handle a loaded dumpster if we use protective boards (which we always do on our standard deliveries). Alley placement is also common in older neighborhoods near Downtown and Mesilla β a great option when you have alley access and don’t want to block the street.
Yard placement is possible if you have a level surface and the driver can get the truck close enough to set it down safely. Keep in mind the truck needs about 60β70 feet of clearance in a straight line to back in and off-load. Low-hanging trees, power lines, and tight gate openings are the most common obstacles β tell us about them when you book so we can assess.
Street placement is also an option but requires a City of Las Cruces permit (see the next question). We always recommend going private-property first if you have the space β it’s simpler, cheaper, and faster.
Do you need a permit to put a dumpster in front of your house in Las Cruces? +
Yes β if the dumpster sits on a city street, the public right-of-way, or a public alley, you’ll need a permit from City of Las Cruces Public Works. The process isn’t complicated, but it does take a bit of lead time. You can reach their office at (575) 541-2000 or visit in person at City Hall on Main Street. Permit requirements typically include traffic safety measures (cones or barriers) and duration limits.
If the dumpster is entirely on your private property β driveway, yard, private alley β no city permit is needed. Most residential customers can avoid the permit process entirely with good placement planning. We help you think through this when you book. For commercial jobs near a street or shared lot, we’ll flag the permit requirement during the quote so you have time to pull it before delivery day.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway? +
This is one of the most common concerns we hear, especially from homeowners with newer driveways. Here’s the honest answer: a loaded dumpster is heavy, and the weight is concentrated on four small pads at the corners. On a properly cured concrete driveway in good condition, damage is very unlikely. On older or cracked concrete, the risk goes up. We place plywood boards under the pads on every delivery β this distributes the load and protects the surface, especially on pavers and stamped concrete.
Asphalt is the one that deserves extra attention in Las Cruces. New Mexico summers are brutal β asphalt can soften significantly when surface temperatures climb into the 140Β°F+ range on a July or August afternoon. We take extra precautions in summer, using thicker boards and recommending placement in shaded spots where possible. If your asphalt driveway is less than a year old or visibly soft in the heat, talk to us and we’ll work out the safest option.
My HOA has restrictions β what do I do? +
HOA rules in Las Cruces vary a lot by neighborhood. Some are very lax; others are strict about dumpster visibility, duration, and placement. The communities we deal with most often include Sonoma Ranch (generally requires the dumpster be in the driveway, not visible from the street), Picacho Hills (has CC&Rs that may require ARB approval for extended placements), and several newer East Mesa subdivisions that limit rental periods to 5β7 days visible from the street.
The best approach: check your CC&Rs or contact your HOA management company before booking. Most HOAs just want the bin in the driveway and gone within a reasonable time β which aligns with how we operate anyway. If you tell us your subdivision, we can often give you a heads-up based on what we’ve seen before. We can also deliver early in the morning and pick up promptly at the end of your rental to minimize the visibility window if your HOA is particular about aesthetics.
What Can Go In the Dumpster
Acceptable debris, prohibited items, and the New Mexico rules that apply to your job.
What can I put in a rental dumpster? +
The short answer: most non-hazardous household and construction debris is fine. Here’s what we routinely accept:
- Furniture (sofas, mattresses, dressers, tables, bed frames)
- General household junk and cleanout items
- Construction debris: drywall, lumber, framing, flooring, trim
- Roofing materials: shingles, underlayment, fascia, gutters
- Tile, ceramic, porcelain, stone countertops
- Yard waste: tree branches, brush, sod, landscaping debris
- Concrete, asphalt, brick, block (note: heavy β weight limits apply)
- Dirt and caliche (same weight caveat β call us first)
- Most appliances (see specific question below about freon)
- Carpet and padding
- Windows and glass (should be broken down for safety)
- Metal items: pipes, rebar, metal fixtures
- Cardboard and packaging (break down boxes to save space)
If you have something that’s not on this list and you’re unsure, just call and ask. We’d rather answer a quick question than have you put something in that causes problems at the transfer station.
What’s NOT allowed in the dumpster? +
Certain materials are banned at the transfer station and by New Mexico environmental regulations β putting them in the dumpster creates real problems for us and for you. Prohibited items include:
- Hazardous household chemicals: paint (liquid), solvents, pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals
- Propane tanks (even empty β residual gas is a fire hazard)
- Automotive fluids: motor oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze, brake fluid
- Batteries: car batteries, lithium batteries, large industrial batteries
- Tires (these have their own disposal stream in NM β take to a tire shop or DoΓ±a Ana County tire collection events)
- Asbestos-containing materials β older Las Cruces homes built before 1980 may have pipe insulation, floor tiles, or ceiling texture that contains asbestos. These require licensed abatement and special disposal β call us for Referrals.
- Medical waste or sharps
- Electronics with liquid components
- Freon-containing appliances without certified freon removal (see next question)
New Mexico NMED (Environment Department) takes hazardous waste seriously. If prohibited materials are found in a load we haul, we’re required to report it and charge you for any additional disposal or remediation costs. We’re not trying to be difficult β these rules protect everyone, including the guys at the transfer station handling the waste.
Can I put old appliances (fridge, washer, dryer) in the dumpster? +
Yes β most appliances are perfectly fine in our dumpsters. Washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, ranges, microwaves, water heaters (drained), and most other home appliances go in without any issue. These are metal-heavy and add weight, but they’re accepted at the transfer station and recyclable.
The one exception is refrigerators, freezers, window air conditioners, and dehumidifiers β any appliance that runs on a refrigerant (Freon / R-22 / R-410A). Federal EPA regulations require that refrigerant be removed by a certified technician before the appliance can be sent to landfill or scrap. We can’t legally haul an appliance with refrigerant still in it. The fix is straightforward: have an HVAC tech or appliance removal company evacuate the freon first (many will do it cheap or free if they’re already on-site), and then the unit is fine to put in the dumpster. If you’re unsure, just ask us β we deal with this regularly and can point you in the right direction.
Can I put dirt, concrete, or caliche in the dumpster? +
Yes, we accept dirt, concrete, asphalt, and caliche β but these are some of the heaviest materials you’ll ever put in a container, and weight limits matter a lot here. Caliche is particularly deceptive: it doesn’t look heavy, but a small pile can weigh several tons fast. A 10-yard dumpster can easily hit its weight limit with just a few inches of caliche in the bottom.
For projects involving significant amounts of these materials, we typically recommend either a smaller container with a high weight allowance priced specifically for heavy debris, or breaking the project into separate loads β one for concrete/caliche and one for lighter debris. Call us before you book if heavy materials are a major part of your project. We’ll help you structure the rental so you don’t end up with a $400 overage charge on top of your base rental rate.
What about adobe block from a renovation? +
Adobe is accepted, but it’s one of the heaviest renovation materials we deal with β right up there with concrete. Traditional adobe block (not the modern concrete block that looks like adobe) is dense clay-and-straw construction material and weighs roughly 30β35 pounds per brick. If you’re demo-ing an adobe wall, even a small section can generate far more weight than you’d expect.
For adobe renovation work, we almost always recommend our heavy-debris weight allowance β an upgraded tonnage package priced specifically for masonry and earthen materials. Don’t just book a standard dumpster and start loading adobe bricks β call us first, tell us roughly how much adobe you’re pulling out, and we’ll quote you a package that makes sense for the project. Adobe renovation is common in Las Cruces and the Mesilla Valley, so we know this material well and can give you accurate guidance.
Rental Period & Logistics
How long you can keep it, what happens when plans change, and how pickup works.
How long can I rent the dumpster? +
Our standard rental periods are 7 days, 10 days, and 14 days β we price each one accordingly so you’re not paying for time you don’t need. The 7-day option covers the vast majority of residential projects: weekend warrior cleanouts, kitchen remodels, roofing jobs, junk removal runs. The 10 and 14-day periods are popular with contractors who need the flexibility of a longer project window without committing to a full month.
Rental extensions are available if your project runs long. Just call before your rental period ends β we’ll add days at a prorated daily rate. We don’t penalize you for going over; we just need to know so we don’t send the driver to pick up a bin you’re still actively using. Communication is all we ask.
What if I need more time than I booked? +
No problem β just call us before the end of your rental period and we’ll extend it. Extensions are billed at a prorated daily rate, and there’s no penalty for going over your original estimate. Projects run long all the time, especially renovations that uncover additional work once the walls come down. We get it, and we’d rather you call early than let the rental period lapse.
If your rental period ends and we haven’t heard from you, our driver will show up for pickup as scheduled. If the bin isn’t ready, we’ll work with you, but last-minute holds can affect our scheduling. A quick call or text the day before your end date goes a long way. We’ll set up a reminder call when you book if that helps.
What if the dumpster fills up before my project is done? +
We can do a same-day or next-day swap β haul the full dumpster away and drop a fresh empty one in its place. This is actually a common service for larger renovation projects and commercial jobs that generate more debris than anticipated. You only pay for what you use: the standard haul for the first bin plus the rental rate for the second bin.
To arrange a swap, just give us a call when the bin is getting close to full. Don’t overfill β debris should never be stacked higher than the top rail of the dumpster. Overfilled bins can’t be legally transported (debris can fall on the road), and we may need to make a special trip to sort it out if you overfill before calling. Watch your level and call when you’re at about 80% capacity. That gives us time to get a truck out to you without interrupting your workflow.
Can I move the dumpster once it’s placed? +
No β please don’t try to move the dumpster yourself. These bins weigh several hundred pounds empty, and once they’re loaded they can be thousands of pounds. Attempting to move one with a vehicle or equipment is genuinely dangerous and can damage your property, the dumpster, and whatever equipment you’re using. We’ve seen it go wrong in ways that are expensive and sometimes injurious.
If you need the dumpster in a different spot β say the contractor needs to access that side of the house, or you realized the placement is blocking something β just call us. We’ll send a driver out to reposition it for you. There may be a small repositioning fee depending on how involved the move is, but it’s always safer and usually cheaper than trying to handle it yourself. Think of the dumpster like a piece of our equipment, because that’s exactly what it is.
When do you pick up the dumpster? +
Two ways this works: you can call us when you’re ready and we’ll schedule pickup β typically within 24 hours, often same day if you call in the morning. Or, the pickup happens automatically at the end of your booked rental period. We’ll confirm the pickup date when we drop off, and we’ll typically give you a reminder call the day before our scheduled pickup so there are no surprises.
If you finish your project early and want the bin gone sooner, we love those calls β it frees up inventory and we can sometimes accommodate same-day early pickup. There’s no penalty for finishing early. We’ll even prorate a partial refund in some cases if you’re well ahead of your rental end date β just ask. Our goal is a transaction that leaves you happy, not one that locks you into paying for time you didn’t use.
Local Las Cruces Specifics
Questions that only make sense if you live here β answered by someone who does.
Do you serve Mesilla, Anthony, Sunland Park, and other DoΓ±a Ana County areas? +
Yes β we serve the full DoΓ±a Ana County area and beyond. Our standard service territory includes:
- Las Cruces (all areas β East Mesa, West Mesa, Upper Valley, Mesilla Valley, Downtown, South Side, NMSU area)
- Mesilla and historic Mesilla Park
- Anthony (NM side)
- Sunland Park and Santa Teresa
- Hatch (with delivery notice)
- Radium Springs and Dona Ana village
- Chaparral and Vado
- La Union and Berino
- Rincon and Arrey (longer haul β call for availability)
If you’re in a community not on this list, give us a call anyway. We can often serve areas farther out with advance notice, though a distance surcharge may apply.
Is there an extra charge for delivery outside Las Cruces? +
For most of the DoΓ±a Ana County communities in our standard service area β Mesilla, Anthony, Sunland Park, Santa Teresa, Chaparral β there’s no additional delivery surcharge. These are areas we serve regularly and they’re factored into our base pricing. For communities farther out β Hatch, Rincon, Truth or Consequences, El Paso metro area β a distance surcharge typically applies and varies based on the exact location and current fuel costs.
The cleanest approach: call us and give us your address. We’ll quote you the full delivery price up front β no vague “it depends” answer. If a distance fee applies, we’ll tell you exactly what it is so you can decide. We’d rather be transparent on the front end than have an awkward conversation about surprise charges after the fact.
Do you work with NMSU move-outs and campus-area rentals? +
Absolutely β we serve the NMSU area and surrounding streets (Triviz, Solano, University Ave, the neighborhoods south of campus) all the time. Student move-outs are a significant part of what we do, particularly in early May (end of spring semester) and mid-August (move-in rush).
A word of honest warning: those two windows are our busiest periods. Same-day delivery is much harder to guarantee in the first week of May or mid-August than it is any other time of year. If you’re a landlord or property manager clearing a unit for the turn, book at least a week ahead during those periods. If you’re a student moving out, plan ahead and don’t call us the morning you need to be out. We do our best to accommodate everyone but availability gets tight fast during peak times. Booking early also locks in your price, which helps since we don’t adjust rates based on demand β first booked, first served.
What areas of Las Cruces do you serve most frequently? +
We run deliveries all over Las Cruces, but the neighborhoods that keep us busiest are:
- East Mesa (Sonoma Ranch, Tierra del Sol, Mesa Grande) β lots of new-build construction and established home renovation
- Mesilla Valley / Upper Valley β older homes, frequent full renovations, lot clearing and landscaping projects
- Downtown Las Cruces β commercial cleanouts, older building renovations, mixed-use redevelopment
- South Side / Vado Road corridor β industrial and commercial customers, manufacturing facility cleanouts
- NMSU area β student housing, multi-family property management turns
- Picacho Hills β high-end home remodels, estate cleanouts
- Del Rey / Tortugas Mountain area β growing residential area with significant new construction
Wherever you are in Las Cruces, we likely have a route near you most weekdays. That’s why same-day delivery is achievable for most addresses without heroic logistics on our part.
I’m doing an adobe renovation β any special considerations I should know? +
Adobe renovation is something we have genuine experience with here in Las Cruces and the Mesilla Valley, where adobe construction is common in historic properties and some modern builds. The biggest things to know: weight and material type. As we mentioned above, traditional adobe block is extremely heavy β and depending on the age and condition of the building, the material may also contain straw, soil, or organic matter that behaves differently from standard masonry at disposal.
A few practical points: First, call us before you book β we’ll ask about the size of the renovation, how many linear feet of wall you’re removing, and whether you’re dealing with reinforced adobe or traditional unstabilized mud brick. That conversation takes five minutes and lets us quote you a weight allowance that actually fits the job. Second, if you’re working on a pre-1978 adobe structure, have the plaster and stucco tested for asbestos before demo β older adobe homes often have asbestos-containing stucco coatings that require licensed abatement. That’s not something that goes in our dumpster, and we want you to know that before you start swinging hammers.
