What Fits in a 15-Yard Dumpster
The 15-yard is where we land on a lot of calls β it’s the sweet spot between “just big enough” and “more than I need.” Here’s what it handles well in Las Cruces.
Kitchen Remodel
Cabinets, countertops, flooring, drywall, appliances from a full kitchen. Granite and tile add weight fast β call us with the square footage and we’ll confirm the 15 is the right call versus stepping up to a 20.
Two-Bathroom Demo
Tub, tile, vanity, drywall from two bathrooms at once. The 10-yard handles one bathroom; the 15 gives you room for two plus the miscellaneous debris that always comes along on remodel jobs.
Medium Roofing Jobs
Asphalt shingles from homes in the 1,500β2,500 sq ft range. Shingles are heavy, so we load by weight on roofing jobs. Call us with the roof size β we’ll tell you whether the 15 or the 20 is safer for your weight.
Full Garage + Spare Room Cleanout
One full two-car garage plus a back bedroom or storage room worth of accumulated stuff. Common call in older Las Cruces neighborhoods like Mesilla Park, Alta Vista, and West Side.
Multi-Room Flooring Demo
Tile, carpet, hardwood, or vinyl plank from three to four rooms. Tile is the weight concern β if it’s all tile, tell us the square footage first so we don’t end up with an overweight bin at pickup.
Apartment Cleanout (2 Units)
Landlords near NMSU and the University Park area use the 15 for two-unit turnover. One apartment fits in a 10; two apartments plus the leftover junk fits in a 15.
Storm Damage Cleanup
Monsoon damage, downed trees, flood debris from inside a structure. Mixed material β light and heavy β makes the 15 a good middle ground when you don’t know exactly what you’re pulling out.
Landscaping & Yard Overhaul
Brush, old block walls, decorative rock, sod. Watch the weight if there’s any caliche or block involved β those materials are dense and can push a 15-yard over its 3-ton limit faster than the volume suggests.
When to Step Up to the 20
The 15 is a solid bin, but some jobs need more room or a higher weight limit.
Full House Cleanouts
Even a modest Las Cruces home will push past a 15-yard on a full cleanout. The 20 or 30 is the right call depending on how much has accumulated over the years.
Heavy Caliche Excavation
Caliche in the Mesilla Valley weighs 2,400β3,000 lbs per cubic yard. A 15-yard can hit its 3-ton weight limit when it’s only partially filled by volume. Call us before booking any excavation job.
Large Roofing Jobs
Roofs over 2,500 sq ft will likely need a 20-yard to stay under weight. We see this often on the larger East Mesa and Sonoma Ranch homes.
New Construction Debris
Framing, drywall, and concrete waste from a new build adds up fast. Most new construction jobs in Las Cruces need a 20 or 30-yard at minimum.
Concrete or Block Demo
Concrete and CMU block are extremely dense β we don’t recommend loading either into a 15-yard without talking to us first. Even a small concrete pad can push you over the weight limit.
Commercial Projects
Tenant build-outs, office renovations, retail demo β these usually generate more debris than a 15 can handle. We’ll size you right when you call with the project scope.
Renting a 15-Yard Dumpster in Las Cruces β What You Need to Know
The 15-yard is the bin we recommend more than any other size for renovation projects in Las Cruces. If you’re doing a kitchen remodel, pulling out flooring in multiple rooms, or cleaning out a garage plus a few other spaces, the 15 gives you enough room to work without paying for a 20 when you don’t need it. It’s also common on medium roofing jobs β those 1,500 to 2,000 square foot homes that are common in West Side, Mesilla Park, and older neighborhoods near Downtown.
The Weight Question β Why You Should Always Call First
The 15-yard carries a 3-ton weight limit. That’s more than the 10-yard’s 2-ton cap, but it can still be exceeded faster than you’d expect if your debris includes heavy material. Tile, granite, caliche, shingles, concrete β these materials are dense enough that you can be at the weight limit before the bin looks anywhere near full by volume. If your project involves excavating in the Mesilla Valley, pulling up stone or tile from multiple rooms, or doing any demo involving concrete or block, call us before you book. We’ll ask a few questions about the material and confirm whether the 15 is the right call or whether we should size you up to a 20.
Caliche β The Local Factor Nobody Warns You About
Las Cruces sits on one of the heaviest caliche deposits in the Southwest. That calcium carbonate hardpan layer runs through almost every property in the Mesilla Valley β East Mesa, West Side, Mesilla, Anthony, all of it. Caliche weighs between 2,400 and 3,000 lbs per cubic yard, compared to roughly 1,200 lbs for regular soil. If you’re doing any yard work, foundation prep, or anything that breaks ground, you’re going to hit it. A 15-yard bin that’s half full by volume can already be at its weight limit if it’s packed with caliche chunks. We see this come up most on East Mesa landscaping jobs and West Side digs where the hardpan is close to the surface.
HOA Rules in Sonoma Ranch and East Mesa Communities
If your property is in Sonoma Ranch, Castillo Real, or another planned community on East Mesa, check your CC&Rs before you book. Some sections have rules about dumpster visibility from the street, how long it can sit, or placement requirements. We’ve delivered plenty of bins into HOA neighborhoods β we know how to work within those constraints β but you need to know the restrictions before we drop the bin. We can also keep the rental window tight (24β48 hours) if your HOA limits how long it can be on the property. Just tell us when you call.
Same-Day Delivery β How It Actually Works
For most Las Cruces city addresses β East Mesa, West Side, Sonoma Ranch, University Park, Picacho Hills, Downtown, Mesilla Park β call before 10 AM and we can usually deliver the same day. We load the bin, drive to your address, and roll it off at your driveway or job site. We’re not sending a confirmation email with a 4-hour window. You call, we confirm your address and project, give you a time, and show up. Rural DoΓ±a Ana County routes β Vado, Anthony, Radium Springs, La Mesa β are typically next-day. Call us and we’ll tell you honestly what’s possible for your address.
Street Placement and City Permits
A 15-yard dumpster has a 16-foot footprint, which fits most Las Cruces residential driveways without any issue. If your driveway can’t accommodate it β shorter setback, narrow access, or a grade problem β we may need to place it on the street. Street placement inside Las Cruces city limits requires a Public Works permit from the City of Las Cruces. We’ll flag this when you call and walk&ΓΉou through the process. The permit takes a day or two, so same-day delivery on a street-placement job usually isn’t possible. Give us your address and driveway situation when you call and we’ll figure out the logistics before we dispatch.
Monsoon Season and Timing
Las Cruces monsoon season runs July through September. Flash flooding through arroyos can push mud, debris, and damaged materials into properties across the Mesilla Valley. After a big storm, demand for same-day dumpster delivery goes up fast β especially in lower-lying areas like Tortuga, South Valley, and properties near the Rio Grande floodplain. If you’re calling after a monsoon event, call early in the morning. We dispatch in order of calls received, and bins fill up during storm cleanup windows.
15-Yard Dumpster FAQs
How much does a 15-yard dumpster rental cost in Las Cruces?
We quote flat-rate pricing when you call β no fuel surcharge, no environmental fee added at the end, no delivery charge on top. The price we quote is the price you pay. Call us at (575) 242-6665 and we’ll give you a number in about two minutes. Price can vary slightly based on disposal fees, weight, and whether any rural mileage applies to your address.
Is the 15-yard dumpster big enough for a kitchen remodel?
For most Las Cruces kitchen remodels β yes. Cabinets, countertops, flooring, drywall, old appliances β the 15-yard handles it. If you’re pulling out granite or heavy stone counters, call us first. Stone adds significant weight and we want to make sure you’re not paying overages at pickup. Two kitchens, or a kitchen plus two bathrooms at once, usually calls for the 20.
Can I get a 15-yard dumpster delivered same day in Las Cruces?
Yes β for most Las Cruces addresses, if you call before 10 AM we can usually deliver same day. East Mesa, West Side, Sonoma Ranch, University Park, Picacho Hills, Downtown β all same-day. Rural DoΓ±a Ana County routes are typically next-day. Call us and we’ll confirm your specific address and availability.
How long can I keep the 15-yard dumpster?
Standard rental is 7 days. Need more time? Call us and we’ll arrange an extension β we’d rather extend your rental than have you rush and leave debris behind. Extensions are billed at a daily rate and we’ll tell you the number upfront.
What’s the difference between the 15-yard and the 20-yard?
Five cubic yards of capacity and one additional ton of weight limit. The 15 fits in a standard driveway and handles most residential renovation jobs. The 20 is what you want for a full house cleanout, larger roofing jobs, or any project generating more debris than a multi-room remodel. When you call, we’ll ask about your project and steer you to the right size β we’d rather right-size you up front than have you pay for a second delivery.
Do I need a permit to place a 15-yard dumpster in my driveway in Las Cruces?
No permit needed for driveway placement on private property. If the dumpster needs to go in the street (due to driveway access issues), a City of Las Cruces Public Works permit is required. We’ll walk you through it when you call β just tell us your address and whether your driveway can fit a 16-foot bin.
What neighborhoods in Las Cruces do you serve?
All of them β East Mesa, Sonoma Ranch, University Park / NMSU area, Picacho Hills, Downtown, West Side, Mesilla Park, Sunset Terrace, Alta Vista, Mesilla village, Rinconada, North Mesa, Tortugas / South Valley. Plus rural DoΓ±a Ana County communities including Anthony, Sunland Park, La Mesa, Vado, and Radium Springs.
