Before you book, it’s worth checking our breakdown of when to book same-day vs. next-day delivery β the difference can affect both availability and price depending on your project start date.
How to Rent a Dumpster in Las Cruces, NM
A clear, no-fluff walkthrough of the entire dumpster rental process β from choosing the right size to pickup day β with local knowledge specific to Las Cruces and DoΓ±a Ana County.
Call (575) 242-6665 β Ready in MinutesRenting a Dumpster in Las Cruces Is Simpler Than Most People Expect
First-time renters often assume dumpster rental involves a complicated process β permits, inspections, days of lead time. For most Las Cruces projects, none of that applies. If you’re placing the dumpster on your own driveway or property, you don’t need a city permit. And if you call in the morning, there’s a good chance we can have a container at your property that same day or the next morning.
Here’s the complete process, step by step, with the local details that actually matter for Las Cruces homeowners and contractors.
The Rental Process, Step by Step
Decide What You’re Getting Rid Of
Before you call, spend five minutes thinking through the full scope of what you’re hauling out. This matters because it determines the dumpster size you’ll need and whether any materials require special handling. Las Cruces projects often involve a mix of materials that don’t come up elsewhere β caliche soil, adobe debris, clay or concrete roofing tiles, desert landscape plants, or materials from pre-1978 construction.
Be honest about the full project. The number-one complaint from renters is that they underestimated the volume and had to rent a second, smaller dumpster to finish. It’s almost always cheaper to rent a slightly larger dumpster from the start than to rent a second one partway through.
Choose Your Dumpster Size
We offer roll-off dumpsters in several sizes, most commonly 10, 15, 20, and 30 cubic yards. Here’s how Las Cruces customers typically match projects to sizes:
10-yard dumpster: Small garage cleanouts, bathroom remodels, single-room renovations, yard debris from a one-time monsoon cleanup. Good for tight driveways where a larger container won’t fit, which is a real consideration in older West Side and South Valley neighborhoods with narrow access.
15-yard dumpster: Most popular for single-room demo, full kitchen or bathroom gut, carpet removal across a whole home, xeriscape landscape conversion on an average lot.
20-yard dumpster: Whole-home interior cleanouts, roofing tear-offs (asphalt shingles only β tile roofing may need a 30), multi-room renovation, concrete patio removal mixed with lighter debris.
30-yard dumpster: Large construction projects, full roof replacements with clay or concrete tile, major landscaping overhauls, new construction site debris, large-scale estate cleanouts. Confirm driveway access and overhead clearance before ordering a 30-yard.
Pick Your Placement Location
Where the dumpster sits matters β both for access and for protecting your property. In Las Cruces, the most common placement is on the driveway. Here’s what to think through:
Driveway placement: No city permit required. Works for the vast majority of Las Cruces homes. Protect the concrete or pavers by placing 4-inch wooden boards under each corner of the container β we can discuss this when you book.
Side or backyard: Works well if you have side gate access wide enough for the container (most roll-off containers are about 8 feet wide). Soft soil or grass under the container can create ruts from the weight.
Street placement: Requires a permit from the City of Las Cruces Public Works Department. Processing typically takes 1β2 business days. Only needed when your driveway has no usable space β most homes have workable driveway access.
HOA communities: If you’re in Sonoma Ranch, Mesa Grande, or another HOA-governed neighborhood, check your HOA’s rules on dumpster placement before delivery. Some HOAs have restrictions on visibility from the street or require specific placement within the property boundaries.
Call and Book Your Rental
Call us at (575) 242-6665. The booking call typically takes 5β10 minutes. We’ll confirm the size, placement location, delivery date, rental period, and what you’re hauling. If we have any questions about your specific debris type (caliche, tile roofing, adobe, suspected hazardous materials), we’ll ask them then β not after delivery.
We’ll also confirm the delivery window β usually a 2-hour arrival window β and any access instructions you need to provide (locked gate, dogs in the yard, tight driveway clearance, low-hanging tree branches near the placement area).
We Deliver β You Load
On delivery day, the driver positions the container at your specified location. Most Las Cruces deliveries take about 15 minutes from arrival. The container is left on site for your rental period β typically 7, 10, or 14 days depending on your arrangement. You load at whatever pace works for your project.
A few things to know about loading: fill from back to front, put heaviest material on the bottom, break down large items to eliminate air pockets, and don’t overfill above the fill line. We can’t legally haul an overfilled container and will need to return for a partial swap or ask you to reduce the load.
Call When You’re Done (or We Pick Up on Schedule)
If you finish loading before the end of your rental period, just call us for an early pickup β no penalty. If you need more time, we can extend the rental for a daily rate. When your rental period ends, we pick up the container and haul the load to the SCSWA facility for proper disposal. All debris from our Las Cruces service area is disposed at SCSWA-certified facilities.

- If your neighborhood has an HOA, confirm their dumpster guidelines before delivery day
- For street placement, have your city permit in hand before the truck arrives

Las Cruces-Specific Things to Know Before You Book
These are the details that don’t come up when you rent from a national chain but matter when you’re working in Las Cruces specifically.
Monsoon Season Surge (JulyβSeptember)
Demand for dumpsters spikes significantly during and after monsoon season. If you know your post-storm cleanup is coming, book a day or two ahead rather than calling the morning after a major storm. Lead times get shorter during peak demand weeks.
NMSU Academic Calendar
University Park and adjacent rental properties near NMSU see heavy demand in May (end of spring semester), August (start of fall semester), and December. Landlords doing unit turnovers should book at least 3β5 days in advance during these windows.
Caliche and Concrete Weight Loads
If you’re doing any excavation in Las Cruces β post holes, drainage work, retaining walls β factor in caliche weight before booking a size. Caliche runs 2,200β2,800 lbs per cubic yard. Weight overages at the facility have real costs.
Rural and Unincorporated County Properties
For properties in DoΓ±a Ana Village, Radium Springs, La Mesa, and rural DoΓ±a Ana County, delivery access can vary significantly. Let us know your road conditions β especially for long unpaved drives β when you book so we can send the right truck.
